Udyam (MSME) Registration: Benefits, Documents and Steps

Udyam registration is the government's way of recognising Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). It is free, done online and linked to your Aadhaar and PAN. This guide covers the benefits, the documents and the steps, and a tool shows which category your business falls into.
Micro, Small or Medium: which are you?
The category depends on two numbers: your investment in plant, machinery and equipment and your annual turnover. Current limits (revised from April 2025) are below.
| Category | Investment up to | Turnover up to |
|---|---|---|
| Micro | ₹2.5 crore | ₹10 crore |
| Small | ₹25 crore | ₹100 crore |
| Medium | ₹125 crore | ₹500 crore |
