Ayushman Bharat Hospital List West Bengal (2026): How to Find Empanelled Hospitals, Check Grading and Get Cashless Treatment

SGSG·Oct 30, 2026·8 min read

With West Bengal joining Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) in 2026, the first question families ask is simple: which hospitals will accept my card? This guide helps you search hospitals across all 23 districts, understand what hospital "grading" really means, check whether a hospital is empanelled for your treatment, and prepare for cashless admission. Last reviewed: 30 October 2026.

Please read this first. The list of empanelled hospitals changes often, because new hospitals are added and treatment packages differ. We cannot give you a fixed "complete list" that stays correct. The search below lists major public hospitals to help you begin, and every result links to the official government portal, where you should confirm that the hospital is empanelled for your treatment before you go. You can also call the toll-free helpline 14555.

Who can use an Ayushman Bharat card? (quick look)

Eligibility is based on a national beneficiary list and socio-economic criteria. Commonly reported groups include rural families in kutcha houses or without an adult earner, landless labour households, eligible SC and ST households, urban workers such as street vendors and construction workers, families of ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and senior citizens aged 70 and above. Existing Swasthya Sathi beneficiaries are being moved across in phases. For the full details, read our guide on the Ayushman Bharat card in West Bengal.

What does hospital "grading" mean?

Ayushman Bharat does not give hospitals a simple star rating. When you look a hospital up on the official portal, you will see facts that together tell you how good a fit it is. Here is how to read them:

What you seeWhat it tells you
NABH accreditationA national quality standard for hospitals. Accreditation can be "entry-level" or "full". It suggests the hospital follows set safety and care processes.
NABL accreditationA quality standard for the hospital's laboratory.
Empanelled specialitiesThe treatments the hospital is approved for under the scheme. A hospital may be empanelled for some specialities but not others.
Bed strengthThe size of the hospital. Larger hospitals usually offer more services.
Public or privatePublic hospitals are generally part of the scheme in implementing states, and private hospitals must be empanelled individually.
Level of careMedical college hospitals and institutes offer tertiary (advanced) care, while smaller hospitals offer secondary care.

Accreditation is useful, but not having it does not mean a hospital is unsafe. Look at the speciality you need, the doctors and the hospital's reputation as well.

How to check the official list of empanelled hospitals

This is the only way to be sure that a hospital is empanelled for your treatment.

  1. Open the official hospital search from the PM-JAY website. If one address does not open, go to the main PM-JAY site and find the "Find Hospital" option.
  2. Choose the state and district. Select West Bengal and then your district.
  3. Pick the hospital type. You can choose public, private or both.
  4. Filter by speciality if you need a specific treatment, such as cardiology, orthopaedics or cancer care.
  5. Open the hospital's details. Check the address, contact number, empanelled specialities, bed strength and accreditation.
  6. Call to confirm. Ring the hospital or the helpline 14555 to confirm that your treatment is covered and ask what documents to bring.

How cashless treatment works

  1. Visit the Ayushman Mitra desk. The Ayushman Mitra is a staff member at the hospital who helps beneficiaries.
  2. Show your card and ID. Your identity is checked.
  3. Doctor advises admission. The hospital selects the treatment package.
  4. Pre-authorisation. For most planned treatment, the hospital asks for approval before it starts.
  5. Get treated. Covered treatment should not need an upfront payment.
  6. Discharge. The hospital sends the claim. You should not be asked to pay for covered services.

The cover is up to ₹5 lakh per family per year, mainly for hospital admission and listed procedures. Routine outpatient visits and some treatments may not be covered, so ask the hospital in advance.

Frequently asked questions

Is there one complete list of Ayushman Bharat hospitals in West Bengal?

The official portal has the complete and current list of empanelled hospitals. Third-party lists can be outdated, so we recommend confirming every hospital on the official site or by calling 14555.

Are government hospitals covered?

Public hospitals are generally part of the scheme in states that implement it. Still, confirm your hospital and treatment before you go.

Can I use the card at private hospitals?

Yes, but only at private hospitals that are empanelled under the scheme. Check the official list.

Can I use my card in another state?

Yes. Ayushman Bharat is portable, so you can use it at empanelled hospitals in other states.

Does a higher-grade hospital mean better treatment?

Accreditation such as NABH is a helpful sign of quality processes, but also look at the speciality, the doctors and the hospital's record.

What if my treatment is an emergency?

In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital that can treat you, and tell the staff that you have an Ayushman card. Ask the Ayushman Mitra about the process as soon as possible.

How much does it cost?
